When Grande’s first opened, it was a buzz. A small place, close to home with fair-priced, good food. It was always packed and certainly worthy of the mounting reputation. Fast forward five (or so) years and Grande’s is showing some wear and tear.
We went to Grande’s Friday night for what we thought would be a quick, uneventful dinner. Michele likes their Chicken Parmesan and Jeff has finally found a Linguini with Clam Sauce with enough buttery-peppery snap to warrant a second order. A family-style salad bowl comes to the table along with some Italian brad and garlic butter beforehand. We finished the salad with its mixture of garbanzo beans, black olives, red onions, mozzarella cheese and oil & vinegar dressing. We also picked on the bread, but the dinners did not arrive. Our flustered waitress promised a number of times, “Dinner is coming!” but it was apparently the victim of “computer problems. We were in no hurry and enjoyed our wine and tea. When dinner finally arrived, the chicken was fine, but Michele felt Jeff’s bowl of Linguini was MUCH smaller than normal. Jeff didn’t mind, big lunch. After ordering tiramisu for dessert, we again waited for the check, and waited and waited. The computer had apparently again taken over the operation of the restaurant. Has anyone heard what Hal is doing lately? I suspect he is working at Grande’s! If this were a typical Friday evening a few years back, it would have been disastrous, this time, not so problematic. There were only six other occupied tables. With its reasonably low prices, we still think Grande’s is a decent place for select menu items, but worry about whether it can survive the inmates taking over the asylum.
