We like eating early. The staff is not rushed, food is (almost) always excellent and we enjoy watching the place fill with excited patrons anticipating a wonderful evening. As we leave, their evening is just about to start.
The first time we ate at Dante, we snagged one of the last tables on a busy Saturday night. Everything was flawless. We immediately thought to ourselves that this place was special. While we were not fans of Dante when it was located inIndependence, this small, more approachable location was a hit.
We were fortunate on Friday, traffic, travel and work all allowed us to arrive for dinner earlier than anticipated. Dante opens at 4:30 and we arrived shortly thereafter. This is our time.
Dante has a wonderful menu approach that we are surprised others have not adapted. Many of the items are available in two size portions, some are fixed sizes. The menu encourages the dinner to eat in whatever manor they prefer. Want a bowl of soup and a taste of Risotto? Dante has you covered. Want a big plate of pasta? Dante can provide. Do you prefer a classic, appetizer, salad and entrée? Again, Dante will hook you up. With this regard, Michele is much more apt to play with courses. Jeff seems to always choose an appetizer and entrée, only occasionally selecting two appetizers. Michele can easily make a meal from a salad and soup, appetizer and salad or some other combination, including dessert, regardless of the restaurant. During this visit, the Louisiana Redfish caught her eye and she quickly paired that with the puree of squash soup. Today, she was eating traditional. Jeff, who almost never orders chicken, could not get past the bacon-wrapped chicken with cauliflower and mustard jus, or the beef, veal, pork Bolognese ragu, so he had both!
The beauty of Dante is that it all worked and it’s all good. Combined with the roasted pineapple and buttermilk lime sherbet dessert, we really enjoyed our great EARLY meal.
As we left, a handful of tables were populated and people were beginning to anticipate dinner. We were already done and we knew that these lucky people would soon be enjoying a great meal, just like Jeff and Michele.
